I was Dreaming
Hello,One of our workers is in prison, but will be
back soon. We write to each other. We dream of a better world. We know the
world is better than it was when we were young, but we think our world can
still be better.
We can find any business, house, or bridge by
its address. We think it will do no harm if happiness also has an address and
could be found. If a person needs some happiness there should be a place to
find it, so we put this on our website.
We think that happiness is not a derivative of
something else. We seek happiness directly. Our job is to go to work happy,
come home happy and be happy during the many hours in between.
Someone suggested to us that the purpose of
life was to be happy and we are thankful for the good advice that we have been
given. We dropped the rock that weighed us down for many years. We need to be
happy. We do not need to win a contest, or an argument, or be popular, or be
shackled to stuff that we do not need. We are free at last.
Some of us think that the ultimate freedom is
freedom from desire. Wanting things material and spiritual has no end point
until we let go of the wanting.
There is a downside to everything. There is no
perfect system. What we are seeking at work is a system that seems fair to most
of us most of the time, brings out what is best in us and guides us away from
what is worst in us.
If you say “we”, you are part of the hope and
happiness of many. “We” seems happier than “I”
At work we struggle with our question of how
can our business survive and benefit all of us and all that interact with us
more more equally? We are not peas in a pod. We are 22 people that collectively
speak 10 languages. We have no managers. We are running wild. To say we are
managing ourselves is a very optimistic spin. We have no commissions, no
performance reviews, no productivity charts. We divide 25% of each month's
profit among ourselves based on 1 share for each year we have been here. Owners
are not included. We are old. On average we have been here 15 years. We have
grandparents, parents and children working here. We have no employment
agreements. Anyone can quit at any time and work wherever they wish.
Everything that lives will die including us. We have come close to dying many times before, but while we live we seek to be happy in the morning and happy at night. We think if you seek happiness directly you will find it. We suggest you drop the desires that burden you. Let go of the rocks that burden you.
We hope this is helpful,
Bernard and Rolly
